Darby is the definition of an Airedale for sure! Full of life and spunk! Haha. I have hunted her in the past and she did well. She is a flusher and will retrieve almost to hand. She has only had upland experience on pheasants and chuckar. She is sharp on fur and will kill raccoons, woodchucks, rabbits, etc. I have started her on raccoon hunting. She does not tree the raccoons but she has done well locating them and dispatching them. She has never done waterfowl but I think she could if introduced.

I have taken Darby to horse shows and she will lay on the ground right next to them like no big deal. She has a thing for cats… She will coexist with our cats but I would not trust her alone with them. I would prefer to find a non-cat home so their are no issues. Darby does well with other dogs and plays well. Proper introductions are important as she is typically reserved at first with other dogs. She would do better with a dog who is not alpha. But I think she would be happier with another dog than by herself. Darby enjoys playing with our dogs. She also really enjoys the puppies we have. Her tail is going a million miles per hour when she is greeting puppies through a fence or when she begs for food… lol. She also loves to chase our horses along the fence. They are her big playmates. It really is hard to see her go. She brings so much life to our home with her giant personality. Described by many as “a bull in a China shop”. Darby loves attention and is a very good cuddler in bed. She is an easy to get along with but if you leave her unattended she will get into things. We keep her crated when we leave home for her safety. She is a very chill dog that has been well trained. Darby does well with kids and is always happy to say hello when we meet kids out in public. Since she is not used to kids all the time, I would recommend a family with older kids above 5 years old.

Commands that Darby knows include; how to loose leash walk, sit, down, wait, “off” (sometimes still trys jumping), is potty trained, crate trained, and has been to stores, breweries, and horse shows. She does well with hair trimming but is not a huge fan. I have a large sheep trimmer that I use on her. I would be happy to include that with her. Patience and building trust would be important when trimming her.

Please contact us if you are interested in Darby. I would like to have a phone call to discuss your interest. Airedales are not for novice owners and I’ll be selective in finding her the right home.
