Ukon is a very nice 6 year old hunting dog who has mostly hunted upland game. He has a nice search and is amazing at marking downed game. We don’t lose birds with this dog. He has 5 hunting seasons under his belt and has been used mostly on hunting pheasants in Pennsylvania and wild pheasants in Minnesota. I think he could hunt more species of game but that is mostly what we have used him for. He has been our go to guide dog for pheasant and chuckar hunts.

Ukon was tested in NAVHDA Natural Ability test at 11 months old and received a maximum score. He has not done any other testing but his full brother from a repeat litter has recently passed the NAVHDA Invitational and became a Versatile Champion. Ukon naturally backs other dogs and loves to retrieve. He knows the commands sit, wait, down, heel (can be excitable), walks well on a leash, and knows “off” ( but is very persistent with wanting on the couch).

In the home he just wants to be with you and is very affectionate. We also have enjoyed taking him on hikes, to breweries, festivals, etc. We even had him as our ring bearer at our wedding. He is very well behaved when he gets daily runs. He is always up for hunting so finding him a home that will take him hunting quite a bit is ideal. We have not used him for waterfowl hunting. I feel like he would enjoy that as well.

We will be very specific on finding him home. He does well with other dogs and is very friendly. He doesn’t like when dogs get in his face but otherwise does well with other dogs. Sometimes puppies like to go right up to him and he just let’s them know he doesn’t like it. Which is pretty typical with dogs who are socialized with other dogs that have rules. He is used to being crated at night and does well left at home. I think a home that has one other dog would be best for him. He has never been left alone without another dog. He respects our 4 household cats well but would need proper introduction to a new cat.
